He think he Jesus :: essays research papers
It was a typical daytime as any some other with the only exception that it was nearly 50 degrees in the middle of December. People were operating as they always due skating through their business day while they sip on their Starbucks and yell at someone on their cell phone. But hey, thats the world we live in, blank stones throws, exchanging un-pleasantrys and so on and so forth. Kids like me sit at tables trying to make some kind of pointless conversation with an attractive female while we stair into their eyes trying to figure out which words will get you laid up with them the fastest. All is moving fine until your plan is interrupted. Not by your game of course, never that, but by this bummy looking older man who decides to sit at the same table. Do you need help with your chemistry preparation? He asks my potential prey and points to her chemistry book that has been opened to the same page for the past 20 minutes. He wears a look of confidence condescension his tattered fas hion and yellow teeth. Now I am not one too big on believing in stereotypes, however, I promise it how I see it and he looked like a bum, point blank. He began to speak about the basics of chemistry while sipping on coffee to a great extent saturated in sweet and low. As he began to speak and shed light on this topic, he flipped the conversation to history and the lies weve all been told. Everything he was utter I was familiar with, however I could tell he was shocking the female that was sitting across from me. At this point I realized that she had pay back a lost cause for the moment since she was very enthralled by our new acquaintance. In the midst of the truths he was speaking, he rambled a great chaw as if he couldnt maintain a single thought long enough to fully explain it. He then began to denounce the wideness of money, however he bragged about the diamonds from exotic countries that he owned. He carried a paper bag that was pretty full. As he began to dig in it to as if to prove himself, he pulled out so called skins from different animals around the world. They were supposedly worth a great deal of money and he was carrying them since he was awaiting a business meeting.

Review of William Cooks Francis of Assisi :: essays research papers
In his book, Francis of Assisi, William R. Cook seeks to provide a better apprehension of St. Francis of Assisi as an individual rather than in conjunction with the order he founded. Cook divides the book into six sections, each section concentrating on an important face or experience in Francis= life and spirituality. The six sections focus on his conversion his relationship to the created world the creation of the Christmas crib at Greccio the role of erudition the relationship amongst the active and contemplative life and his stigmatization at LaVerna in 1224.(pg. 18) In order to provide a general understanding I believe that these six sections can be narrowed down into three major themes that Cook sets forth full surrender to God, a balance between world and self through an understanding of God=s will, and the importance of experiencing scripture over studying it. To support these themes Cook utilizes a number of original resources, both written and visual. In looking at the first and last of Cook=s six sections, Francis= conversion and his stigmatization at LaVerna, the theme of a full surrender to God can be seen. For a clearer understanding of Francis= conversion a brief look at his history is important.Francis was the son of a rich business man. In his youth, he spent time drinking with his friends and lived an entertaining life thanks to the pocket of his father. He dreamed, as did many of the jejune sons of his time, of becoming a soldier. It was seen as the glamorous life of heroes, who fought for their country as well as won the favor of beautiful women. What more could a boy want? So Francis headed off to war. Unfortunately his image of the glories of war was soon shattered. He was taken as a prisoner of war by Perugia, Assisi=s warring neighbor. After his release, Francis became very ill. For a boy of Francis= age, the sights of battle and prison are sobering experiences. Disillusioned with his previously held beliefs, Francis began to chang e his thinking. The things that formerly brought him happiness no longer did and Francis saw a need for a change in his life. This need brought him to the foot of the throne of Christ. So, it can be seen that for Francis, conversion was a terminated turn around from life as he knew it. He soon decided that he needed to give his whole life to Christ and in doing so give up the life he once knew.
